Meeting motor developmental needs
Movement can be recognized as a fundamental activity of life. It is perceived in liveliness of thinking, in the fluctuations of feeling and human interaction and most obviously in the physical body. (Nash-Wortham and Hunt,1994)
We will explore the social, academic and emotional difficulties that learners can experience if they have motor control development (movement) problems. It will provide the reader with a theoretical understanding of the difficulties encountered and their effects on the whole child. Case studies and the author’s personal experiences will form the main body of information to which other sources will be linked. The effects of the changes in society and the educational system on learners with this type of additional difficulty will also be discussed. Awareness of what to look out for in learners as well as interventions that are easily included within a normal mainstream setting will also be discussed.
