benefactive (adj./n.) (ben, BEN)

A term used in some GRAMMATICAL descriptions to refer to a CASE FORM or CONSTRUCTION whose FUNCTION in a SENTENCE is to express the notion ‘on behalf of’ or ‘for the benefit of’; also referred to as beneficiary. A benefactive form (‘a benefactive’) expresses the sense of ‘intended RECIPIENT’, and is often introduced by a for phrase in English, e.g. I’ve got a book for you.
