George Samuel Eastwood's father was Charles Eastwood (born in Halifax, Yorkshire about 1840) who was a landscape gardener and nursery man employing seven men. His mother was Jane Eastwood (born in Warley, Yorkshire about 1842). He had seven older siblings, Thomas (born about 1862), a nursery man, Henry (born about 1867), William (born about 1865), a mechanical engineer, Hannah (born about 1869), Mary (born about 1872), James (born about 1874), a civil engineer, John (born about 1877), and younger siblings, Maud (born about 1883) and Charles (born about 1885).
George Eastwood attended the University of London. After a short spell as a teacher in England, he came to Scotland when appointed as an assistant master at Arbroath High School. In 1911 he was appointed Principal teacher of Mathematics at Beath Secondary School in Cowdenbeath, Fife, and he remained in this post until he retired in 1938.
He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh on 9 March 1925 having been proposed by Sir Edmund T Whittaker, David Gibb, Sir Charles Galton Darwin, and Edward Thomas Copson.
