Upgliding diphthongs GOOSE

The vowel is a central diphthong  with more lip-rounding on the second element than on the first. Since northern East Anglia demonstrates total yod-dropping, there is in this part of the area complete homophony between pairs of words which have this vowel, such as dew = do, Hugh = who, cute = coot. In northern East Anglia, many words in this set may also occur with the vowel /u:/.
