institutional linguistics
A developing branch of LINGUISTICS in which the focus is on the language used in professional contexts, such as law, medicine, education and business. As other domains of linguistic enquiry (e.g. SOCIOLINGUISTICS, STYLISTICS) also study such contexts, the term is not in widespread use.
