Lying is a bad and reprehensible trait, whether it is intentional or a joke, and no matter how deep the relationship between people is, it remains a reprehensible behavior, and lying is destructive to the family if the spouses are not embarrassed to lie. If the husband and wife want their lives to be clear and their relationship to be free from problems, they must never lie to each other, and they must avoid lying even to their children as much as they can and whatever the circumstances, because lying is the key to evils. Imam al-Hasan al-Askari - peace be upon him - said: (Evils were placed in a house and its key is lying).
A wife who gets used to lying must realize that she is destroying the trust that her husband has given her. If lying prevails in married life, the atmosphere will be filled with causes of doubt and mistrust, and the circle of hostility will expand, which will lead to a lack of harmony between the spouses. They will not accept the words of the other, and will have bad thoughts about him. The result will be that both the husband and the wife will live in anxiety and turmoil. To understand the destructive effects of lying on marital relationships, we mention a number of them:
- The relationship between spouses is based on love, but it is torn apart by lying and ends in estrangement.
- The continuation of security between spouses is based on trust, but lying destroys it, and thus life turns into a hell of tension and fear.
- Communication between spouses is the prevailing characteristic, but lying turns it into hostility and enmity.
- Respect is the area where spouses meet, but lying completely destroys this bond.
- Lying stands in the way of achieving the family’s goals and progress and pushes it towards disintegration.
