Collagen and Elastic Fibers-Mesentery

The widely spread layers of connective tissue from the mesentery contain strong undulating bundles of collagen fibrils (stained red), which are intersperse d with thin elastic fibers (stained blue-violet) and argyrophilic fibers.  Built into these extended fiber network s are blood and lymph vessels, fat cells and nerves (not shown). Fibrocytes and a large number of different free cells are found in the fiber mesh.
