ecolinguistics (n.)
In LINGUISTICS, an emphasis – reflecting the notion of ecology in biological studies – in which the interaction between LANGUAGE and the cultural environment is seen as central; also called the ecology of language, ecological linguistics, and sometimes green linguistics. An ecolinguistic approach highlights the value of linguistic diversity in the world, the importance of individual and community linguistic rights, and the role of LANGUAGE ATTITUDES, LANGUAGE AWARENESS, language VARIETY, and LANGUAGE CHANGE in fostering a culture of communicative peace.
