Comparison: Do not compare your children in terms of advantages or shortcomings, neither in terms of appearance or behavior. Do not say, “He is taller than you,” or “You are short,” or “She is beautiful and you are not!” And your brother is better than you!
Bias: Be impartial in your evaluation or judgment and strive to please all of your children in the event of quarrels, purchases, or even in welcoming or kissing them.
Differentiation: Do not differentiate between your children. For your eldest son, you show interest in him. Because he is the eldest, while girls get a small share of attention because they are girls?
These practices will break the bridges of communication between your children and thus create gaps between you and them and provoke quarrels, envy, and thus boycotts.
On the authority of Imam Ali (peace be upon him): The Messenger of Allah saw a man who had two sons, and he kissed one of them and left the other, so he (may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family) said: Would you please console them?
