Who is your son?

Boys rarely become exactly what their parents expected. There are things about your son that will make you smile, while others will disappoint you. Perhaps you hoped to raise a professional athlete, or a successful businessman. Perhaps you dreamed of a tall, blond-haired boy instead of the plump, red-haired boy you had. Perhaps you long to see your grandchildren while your son wanders the world, unwilling to settle down now. Perhaps your son has made a number of choices that you simply do not understand or like. Your son's personality is unlikely to change. Researchers in the field of neurobiology believe that temperament is mostly inherited and does not change much during our lives, but behavior and attitudes can change. Instead of forcing your son to become a person far from his truth and nature, focus your energy on helping him learn from his mistakes and make wise decisions.

If you think back to your childhood and your youth, you will probably discover that you have changed a lot over the years. This is what life does to people: we have to adapt and learn from our experiences, in hopes of becoming wiser and stronger. You may look at your son and your heart is filled with love and pride. And you might shake your head and wonder if he could make his way in the world. But always remember that your son's story has not been fully written yet. It is a work in progress and will always need your trust, encouragement and wisdom.

Have you done enough?

With the approaching end of the years of active and practical parenting, you will go through moments when you feel regret and anxiety, and the beautiful memories of the times you spent together will come back to you. There is no perfect mother or perfect father; Everyone makes mistakes and misjudges things. Most parents lose their temper and say things or do actions that they regret from time to time.

Your son won't be perfect either. He will still have lessons to learn, no matter how old he is. And while your lives interfere and separate. You will keep learning and you will grow...and you will make mistakes. But if you seek to maintain the bond that brings you together and the communication between you, the relationship will provide joy and the opportunity for learning for both of you.
