High-Speed Trains that can cross continents.
Rails are the most popular mode of transport and they have existed for a very long time.
However, trains are evolving at a rapid pace.
Maglev trains is the latest innovation in the path to futuristic trains.
Maglev or Magnetic levitation is a system of train transportation that uses two sets of magnets, one set to repel and push the train up off the track, and another set to move the elevated train ahead.
Since no friction is involved and trains literally hover over tracks.
Maglev trains are therefore much faster than traditional trains.
Japanese Maglev train achieved the speed of 603 km/hr in a special test.
China is also testing a Maglev prototype that can travel at a speed of 620 km/hr.
Even with friction removed, there's still one factor that acts as a resistance in Maglev Trains which is drag or wind resistance.
What if we managed to remove wind resistance out of equation?
This is exactly what Vactrains aims to achieve. A vactrain or vacuum tube train is a maglev line, using partly evacuated tubes or tunnels to reduce air resistance, could permit vactrains to travel at very hypersonic speeds.
Theoretically, Vactrains can travel at the speed in the range of 6,400 to 8,000 km/h.
Elon Musk's famous Hyperloop transportation system is based on the same concept.
It is estimated that the Hyperloop system can achieve around 1200 km/hr.
Virgin Hyperloop is another ambitious project based on Vactrains.
Last year, Virgin Hyperloop conducted a successful test with 2 passengers.
They plan to commercialize the plan by 2030.
Seeing the advancements in the train system.
The day is not that far when we will have a futuristic train systems that can travel across continents.
