After the Conquest of Mecca, Prophet Muḥammad (s) organized various expeditions, one of which involved Khalid ibn al-Walidleading a raid on the Banū Jadhīma clan in the al-Ghumayṣāʾ region. This event took place in Shawwāl, 8/January-February, 630. Using deceptive tactics, he cunningly captured and executed individuals who had embraced Islam, and then plundered their belongings. Prophet (s) dispatched ʿAlī (a) to visit the tribe and provide compensation for the losses incurred as a result of Khālid’s actions. ʿAlī (a) diligently fulfilled this task by paying the blood money for all the victims, returning their property and belongings, ensuring they received their rightful entitlements, and issuing just verdicts on disputed matters. Amīr al-Muʾminīn (a) sent Abū Rāfiʿ to the Prophet (s) to ask for more money. Once the funds arrived and the compensations were paid, ʿAlī (a) distributed the remaining amount among the members of the tribe, taking into consideration the possibility of any undisclosed losses that may have gone unnoticed by the Banū Jadhīma. Subsequently, ʿAlī (a) returned to the Prophet (s) and provided him with a detailed account of the events that had transpired. The Prophet (s) expressed his admiration for ʿAlī’s efforts, proclaiming, “What you have accomplished is dearer to me than ‘red camels’ [ḥumr al-niʿam, which metaphorically refers to the most precious treasures]. May my father and mother be sacrificed for you.”
