Acceptable friendship is the friendship based on sound foundations and equal relationships, and this friendship has its limits and specifications, and the friend must have special qualities and ethics that qualify him for friendship in order for him to be chosen.
Accordingly, it is clear that in addition to the availability of these qualities and ethics in the friend, the friend must be free of some negative qualities and specifications that are like red lines in the issue of friendship, as in the will of Imam Ali bin Al-Hussein [peace be upon him] to some of his sons:
First: Beware of befriending a liar; he conveys what contradicts reality, and he is like a mirage that brings the distant near to you and distances the near.
Second: Beware of befriending an immoral person; he will sell you a meal or less. He is also unreliable because he rebels against the benefactor, so how will he deal with you?
Third: Beware of befriending a miser; he will let you down with his money when you need it most.
Fourth: Beware of befriending a fool; He wants to benefit you but harms you. The fool wants good for you but harms you without realizing it.
Fifth: Beware of keeping company with someone who severs ties of kinship, for he is cursed and banished from the mercy of Allah. The one who severs ties of kinship is evading something natural and emotional. The kinship could be a mother or father, and he responds to their kindness with abuse.
