Fear in children is a feeling of unease that affects the child as an understandable reaction to the child being exposed to a change or an influential event that the child is exposed to. It is natural for the child to feel fear or anxiety from time to time, such as the beginning of entering nursery or school, as well as moving to a new home. To treat fear, you must do the following:
- Listen to your child's fears, and tell him that you felt what he felt when you were his age.
- Teach him that it is human nature to feel fear, and that there are multiple strengths in man that help him face that fear.
- Differentiate between (natural fear) and what is called (phobia), as it is natural fear for a person to hesitate when climbing a long ladder placed in front of the wall, but hesitation from simply climbing a normal staircase in the house is (pathological phobia).
- The mother should avoid threatening her son by withdrawing her love from time to time whenever he commits an act, as this makes him lose his sense of security despite his mother's presence.
- Try to put your child with a group of children who do not have anything that arouses his fear, as the love of imitation can eliminate the phenomenon of fear in him.
- Moderation in dealing with the child: Do not overprotect your child, nor pamper him, as he will grow up dependent, dependent, and lacking in self-confidence.
- If the father or mother is afraid of a certain subject, such as fear of cats, for example, such fear should not be shown in the presence of the child.
- Do not impose the role of manhood on the young child, wanting him to become a man, as some say to the boy: "You are a man now, and men are not afraid of sleeping in the dark, so why are you afraid?! Then you are not a man."
