Carefully analyzing the causes and effects of a given issue is one of the key ways to make the most effective use of the great brain's capabilities.
There are four main steps to do this:
When investigating causes and effects, it can be useful to use pen and paper to organize the sequence of possibilities and causes, and to explore the relationships between them. One can also use charts or graphs depending on the nature of the issue under investigation.
Case Example
Tariq had been working at the company for just three weeks, but he was already feeling very uncomfortable in his job. He was suffering from intense work pressure, which negatively affected his performance, as well as his mental and physical health. His manager couldn’t find any clear reason for this shortcoming and kept assigning him more tasks. Naturally, this caused his performance to deteriorate even further.
On one occasion, Tariq lost his temper and dealt harshly with an important client. This incident forced his manager to pause and carefully investigate the issue and its potential effects.
The investigation revealed a shortage of staff in Tariq’s department, and it was also discovered that they were using outdated equipment lacking modern capabilities. The manager responded by hiring more staff, organizing their roles, and purchasing several modern, high-speed devices. As a result, the workflow became more efficient, the pressure on Tariq and his colleagues decreased, and the clients received better service — ultimately boosting the company's success.
