Mistrustfulness may appear in a slight way, or it may appear in a severe and deep-rooted way in the form of a psychological illness. In any case, there may be different reasons for the issue, including:
First: The motives for Mistrustfulness are often revenge, hatred, and envy. If a person is unable to take revenge on his opponents publicly or expose them verbally, he will attack from the area of thought and heart by accusing them of ugliness, blaming them, and rebuking them for it in order to satisfy his anger in this way.
Second: Sometimes the reason for Mistrustfulness is the lack of purity of the person's soul, and the great good opinion of others may stem from the purity and cleanliness of the person's soul, and this appears more clearly in the simple minded and the ill-informed.
Third: Exonerating oneself or justifying one's actions before the court of conscience: This is considered another factor of Mistrustfulness as well; because the person tries to find partners in his sin in this way, so he thinks badly of others to justify his ugliness or reduce its effect or show it in a natural appearance.
Fourth: Mistrustfulness may sometimes arise from arrogance and self-love; because such people desire to advance over their peers by any means, so they try to think of finding faults for them in order to belittle them and magnify themselves.
Fifth: The company of evil people: Often, the general principles of a person’s opinions are incomplete extrapolations of the individuals with whom he deals, and people’s opinions about a city, village, or people stem from their companions, so if they were evil, their opinion of everyone would naturally be bad.
