Emotions are considered one of the vital resources that a person has, which directs a person’s actions and behavior in various directions. Positive emotions, such as love, friendship, cooperation, forgiveness, and altruism, attract a person to some things, and negative emotions, such as hatred, anger, and fear, only keep a person away from some things.
Emotions and feelings, like other components of human personality, need education and guidance. If we do not pay attention to these emotions in the family or school context, then children and young people will use these emotions according to the examples they see outside or according to their latent needs. For example, a child may use the emotion of anger in order to impose his authority on one of his classmates at school, or through love and friendship with a bad classmate who may lead the child to deviate.
Therefore, the family and the school must discover the natural path of the development of feelings and emotions in children and participate in a basic program for the development of every type of children’s emotions. In the family atmosphere, parents should not treat their children’s feelings with indifference and lack of interest, because these feelings are merely signs that indicate attraction and inclination toward some things, or, on the contrary, aversion and lack of inclination toward other things. If parents know this, they can correct their relationships with their children, and at the same time help them develop their personalities by satisfying the children’s emotional tendencies in a correct manner and in accordance with educational principles and methods.
As for school, in addition to the efforts made for education and the intellectual development of students, attention must also be paid to the emotional characteristics of children and their effects on their academic status and individual behavior. If the teacher or educator is able to form a good relationship with the child and young person and tries his best to learn about their emotions, his success in his educational job will increase.
The emotions of children and young people are considered an aspect of their personality and also need growth and guidance. They are also a powerful tool in the hands of the teacher and educator to enter into the spiritual and psychological world of the child.
