Researchers of the Russian Academy of Sciences plan to organize a magnetic laboratory at the Samoilovsky Island scientific station in the Lena River delta in northeastern Siberia.

And that station specializes at the present time and over the past years in the study of permafrost in the northern Russian region of Yakutia.

The press service of the Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences said that this would allow for unique studies of the North Magnetic Pole, which is gradually moving to the Russian Arctic coast.

Scientists believe that it is necessary to conduct research not only in the summer period, but also to make full use of the plant's potential throughout the year. The measurements throughout the year will require the organization of a magnetic laboratory and the construction of new facilities for it to provide an opportunity to study the details of the process of moving the magnetic north pole towards the coast of the Russian Arctic.

It is planned to conduct scientific research at the station throughout the year, in particular the unique studies of the North Magnetic Pole. Scientists also intend to organize applied research in the fields of renewable energy, materials science and meteorology in the Arctic region from the “Samoilovsky Island” station.

It is noteworthy that the Samoilovsky Island station was established in the Lena River delta in 2010, and has been maintained since 2012 by the Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It is the only modern station in Russia that specializes in studying the Arctic. Research in the Lena River Delta is carried out in the field of seismology, small-depth seismic exploration, electrical tomography, geobotany, thermometry, geochemistry, paleontology and paleontology.

All of these works continue previously begun projects to complete theories of the Arctic ecosystem. There are several small displacement boats, amphibious and snow vehicles, ensuring permanent access to the area adjacent to the station from areas 200 kilometers away.
