Today, Friday, Russia launched the "Luna-25" spacecraft to the south pole of the moon, in an unprecedented historical event, as the south pole of the moon is a region where a spacecraft has never witnessed a smooth landing.
The vehicle is expected to reach the lunar surface on August 23, almost the same day as an Indian spacecraft launched on July 14.
The launch of the "Luna-25" vehicle will be Russia's first since 1976, when it was part of the Soviet Union, and the flight takes 10 to 12 days, and the duration of the mission is one year.
The "Soyuz-2.1b" rocket was successfully launched to the south pole of the moon for the first time in nearly 50 years, carrying the "Luna-25" vehicle from the Vostochny space station.
The main objective of the "Luna-25" mission is to implement a soft landing of this vehicle on the surface of the moon in its south pole region, and to explore whether that region contains water or ice particles.
The Russian "Ross Cosmos" Foundation said that the vehicle was provided with several Russian-made devices dedicated to studying the moon and its surface, and with a robotic arm that can make a small hole in the lunar soil and collect samples from it, and it also obtained a special device that relies on laser waves that can analyze the components of the samples that will be collected from the lunar soil.
