The Ross Cosmos Foundation announced that Russian experts are working on developing a special greenhouse that will help grow plants on the International Space Station.
A statement issued by the Russian company "Energia" for space industries said: "Russian experts are working on developing a special greenhouse for growing plants aboard the International Space Station, and the tests on its prototype are scheduled to end in 2024."
The statement added: "According to the results of the tests that will be conducted on the greenhouse model, the greenhouse will be fully manufactured, and will be sent to the space station for practical testing there."
Yuri Smirnov, head of the Laboratory for the Development and Implementation of Advanced Programs at the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences, had previously stated that the greenhouse that Russia will develop for growing plants on the International Space Station may be helical in shape, and astronauts will place strips inside it containing plant seeds, and within varying periods of time, and during its first experience in the space station, it will be used to grow Chinese cabbage.
It should be noted that the astronauts of the space station, including the Russian "Ross Cosmos" astronauts, had conducted several experiments to hibernate plants on the International Space Station.
