Parents and teachers are not the only people who will play an important role in children's life. Your son needs friends. He might start befriending one or two people, maybe kids from the neighborhood or from daycare. When the school years start at school, he will gravitate toward friends who share similar interests. When he reaches secondary school, friends will take precedence over family. When you understand how a boy makes friends (or fails to do so), you'll be able to support him as he enters the world of his peers.

Developing social skills

Boys are not born with social skills. During childhood, your son is busy learning how his body works, bonding with you, and finding ways to communicate. Babies can't recognize the face in the mirror as "me" until they are about one year old. Thus, their ability to bond with others takes time to develop. At first, your son will be content to play alongside other children (and not care much about who they are). But when his awareness increases (around the age of two or three years), he will start choosing relationships. Not all of these test results will be positive.

Play lab

Play is the method a young child uses to learn about their world. He explores, wiggles and pokes, tugs as he grabs and climbs. But when the subject of this whole activity is another child, we should expect scratches, bumps, and hurt feelings. Young children have not yet learned to share and the idea of playing together takes some time to get used to. A preschooler sees himself as the center of his own world, which means making room for others takes time and practice.

Facts

At two or three years of age, differences in sex appear in the way children make friends. The girl often prefers one or two close friends and builds a strong relationship with them, while the boy tends to form a group of friends and play less with others. A boy can express anger through physical aggression, while a girl can fight back with repulsion, contempt, rumors, and insults.
