We all have this innate sense of distinguishing between real and fake emotions. Children often overreact to certain emotions if they know they will achieve the desired outcome. Each parent has their own unique button that triggers their empathy for their children, and thus children learn the types of emotions they expect to succeed.
The emotions children feign in this way are called "noisy emotions" (although we're still searching for a simpler word).
When anger is feigned, it's called a "tantrum."
When sadness is feigned, it's called a "sullenness."
When fear is feigned, it's called "shame."
These are three types of noisy emotions that pose significant challenges for parents of young children.
