The World Health Organization marks World Diabetes Day on 14 November each year. World Diabetes Day provides an opportunity to raise awareness of diabetes as a global public health problem and what needs to be done, collectively and individually, in order to prevent, diagnose and better manage the condition.

The World Health Organization said that type 1 diabetes cannot be prevented. Type 2 diabetes can often be prevented by following a healthy diet, engaging in regular physical activity, maintaining a normal body weight and avoiding tobacco use.

She stressed that there are multiple forms of malnutrition, including undernutrition (wasting or stunting), insufficient vitamins or minerals, overweight, obesity, and the resulting non-communicable diseases linked to diet.
