The equilibrant of any number of forces is a force equal in magnitude, and opposite in direction, to their resultant. If the forces and their equilibrant act upon a body, the equilibrant will counteract the other forces, and the body will remain at rest. This condition is shown in Fig. 1, in which the equilibrant E and the forces P and Qkeep the body A at rest.
