As a result of his investigation in mechanics, Sir Isaac Newton formulated the following laws:
- Everybody tends to persevere in its state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line, unless it is acted on by an impressed force.
- Change of momentum is proportional to the impressed force and takes place in the direction of the straight line in which the force acts.
- To every action there is always an equal and contrary reaction.
